Description: REPSET.EXE The Replicated Setup (REPSET.EXE) Utility is designed to allow system settings to be "replicated" throughout an enterprise. Replicated Setup requires a text file named CPQSETUP.TXT at execution time. CPQSETUP.TXT contains a list of settings for the client. The administrator downloads Replicated Setup and CPQSETUP.TXT to the client and executes REPSET.EXE. The BIOS settings are then set on the client. Note: Some settings may not take affect until after a power cycle. It is recommended that the administrator perform a "Save to Diskette" from within Computer Setup or the REPGET command, in order to generate the CPQSETUP.TXT File. This action will generate a CPQSETUP.TXT file in the appropriate format. The administrator should then edit the file to remove all entries that should not be replicated and should set the remaining entries to the appropriate values. Care should be taken not to delete parts of entries, but only to delete entries as a whole (refer to the section about entry types that appears later in this document). For best results, the CPQSETUP.TXT file should be generated for units from the same BIOS family. For example, if the units to be replicated have the BIOS families 686O1, 686O2, and 686O3, the CPQSETUP.TXT should be created from one of these units. If various BIOS families are being replicated throughout an enterprise, elements of various CPQSETUP.TXT versions can be combined. Any string in the CPQSETUP.TXT file that is not available in the unit's Computer Setup will be ignored and will not affect that particular unit. This version of REPSET.EXE includes a Help menu, which may be seen by issuing the REPSET /? or /h command. Password Support: ASSIGNPW.EXE The Assign Password (ASSIGNPW.EXE) Utility is used to attach a Setup Password to the Replicated Setup utility. A password, which matches the unit’s setup password, must be assigned to the Replicated Setup utility if the client has a setup password. To assign a password to REPSET.EXE, change directories to the directory that contains REPSET.EXE and type "assignpw REPSET.EXE". You are prompted to type the password (use the BACKSPACE key to correct any mistakes). After you have typed the password, press RETURN. You are then prompted to confirm the password that you just entered. Pressing ENTER before any password keys have been typed will unassign the previously assigned password. You may need to do this if the Setup Password has been deleted from the client machines. To assign a new password, just run the Assign Password utility again. CPQSETUP.TXT Entry Types: Passwords These entries are for use in single machine save/restore. They are not recommended for replicated setup. String Entries such as Ownership Tag and Asset Tracking Number are string types. They can be changed by simply replacing the string value. Here is an example of changing the Ownership Tag. Old value (from Computer Setup): Ownership Tag Acme Widgets New Value (changed with text editor such as notepad.exe): Ownership Tag Big Widgets, LLC Selection Most entries are selections. The selected value is marked with an asterisk (*). To change a selection, delete the old asterisk and place a new one in front of the desired value. DO NOT DELETE OR REORDER THE SELECTIONS. Old value (from Computer Setup): Num Lock State at Power-On *Off On New Value (changed with text editor such as notepad.exe): Num Lock State at Power-On Off *On Lists Entries, such as Boot Order, are ordered lists. To change the value, reorder the list as shown in the example that follows. DO NOT DELETE ENTRIES FROM THE LIST. Old value (from Computer Setup): Boot Order CD-ROM Drive Diskette Drive (A:) Hard Drive (C:) PnP Device #1 PnP Device #2 PnP Device #3 PnP Device #4 PnP Device #5 New Value (changed with text editor such as notepad.exe): Boot Order Diskette Drive (A:) Hard Drive (C:) CD-ROM Drive PnP Device #1 PnP Device #2 PnP Device #3 PnP Device #4 PnP Device #5 ESCD The ESCD entry stores the computer's Plug and Play settings. ESCD is for single machine save/restore and is not recommended for replicated setup.
